No. The discovery call is free and there is no obligation. Every paid engagement begins only after a written scope, so you know exactly what you are paying for and what you will get before any work starts.

Nothing formal. It helps to know what you want to build, what the old system does today if there is one, and your timeline. A quick walkthrough or access to the existing codebase is useful but not required for a first call.
