James Fredley, Founder and CEO of Triumph Interactive

About the Founder

James Fredley

Founder & CEO of Triumph Interactive. 28 years turning integrated engineering, growth marketing, analytics, and AI into measurable revenue for startups.

The story

One operator who builds the product and drives the growth.

James Fredley is the founder and CEO of Triumph Interactive, the founder-led practice behind the Triumph Growth Stack. He founded the company in Wilmington, North Carolina in 2008 to put decades of startup experience directly to work for other growing businesses, and moved the practice to Willow Spring, near the Research Triangle, in 2013.

Over 28 years across startups, software engineering, and digital marketing, James has helped manage more than $1 billion in cumulative revenue - taking multiple companies from little or no revenue to seven, eight, and nine figures. The throughline is integration: he ships the custom software, instruments the analytics, and runs the conversion-focused growth marketing as one accountable engagement.

That refusal to pick a side is the point. Most consultancies are either engineering shops or marketing agencies, and most growth-stage teams pay for the gap between them. James closes it - which is why the work compounds instead of stalling at the handoffs. Today he also invests in the AI infrastructure layer, and serves as VP & PMC Chair of Apache Grails at the Apache Software Foundation.

What James does

The Triumph Growth Stack, in one operator

Four disciplines that usually live in four different vendors - run by one founder as a single, accountable engagement.

Software Engineering

Custom web and cloud application development and web performance optimization - the product foundation everything else compounds on. Built in modern JVM stacks including Java, Groovy, Grails, and Spring Boot.

Growth Marketing

Conversion-focused growth across paid social and paid search, with landing pages and funnels engineered for revenue - not vanity metrics. Multiple companies scaled to seven, eight, and nine figures.

Analytics & Data

Google Analytics 4, Google Tag Manager, and multi-touch attribution; data warehousing with Snowflake, Fivetran, and dbt; business intelligence with Tableau. The instrumentation that proves what is actually working.

Applied AI

AI-native operations and agentic engineering across engineering, marketing, and ops - amplifying senior judgment, not replacing it. Informed directly by James's investments in the AI infrastructure layer.

The difference

"Most teams pick a side - engineering or marketing - and quietly pay for the gap between them. I close the gap. The code, the analytics, and the growth are one job, owned by one person."

Frequently asked questions

James Fredley is the founder and CEO of Triumph Interactive, a founder-led consultancy in Willow Spring, North Carolina. Over 28 years across startups, software engineering, and growth marketing he has helped manage more than $1 billion in cumulative revenue, integrating engineering, growth marketing, analytics, and applied AI into a single accountable practice.

He leads the Triumph Growth Stack: integrated software engineering, growth marketing, analytics, and applied AI for $1M-$100M startups, targeting 1.25x to 3x revenue in 12 months. Instead of choosing between an engineering shop and a marketing agency, he ships the product, instruments the analytics, and runs the growth campaigns as one accountable engagement.

Every engagement is founder-led, not handed to a junior team, and it spans disciplines that are usually siloed. One operator owns the code, the analytics, and the growth, which removes the handoffs where most growth-stage projects stall.

Yes. Alongside his work at Triumph, he serves as Vice President and PMC Chair of Apache Grails at the Apache Software Foundation, and Triumph takes on occasional Grails and Groovy consulting. His committer activity and committee membership are publicly listed in Apache Software Foundation records and on GitHub.
